Digital signage networks are expensive. In fact, the primary reason why most business owners and managers decide not to invest in a system is the price. In other words, it’s not the ROI (Return On Investment), the functionality, or flexibility that stops them. It’s the money they need to spend upfront in order to deploy the system. This is the main challenge that sellers have to overcome, even as prices for the software, hardware, and content continue to decline. A small system can still cost tens of thousands of dollars, which is significant to most budgets.

Small and midsize companies don’t have that kind of money to spend. Stand alone Digital Signage Least expensive solution to implement if don’t require a remotely updated solution.
The LCD display is integrated in a cardboard display, made by Peterson Packaging, Display. Mills have rented 100 LCD screens from Peterson, and the numbers speak for themselves.

43 per cent up
The sales of brands like Kaviar and longing, which both have a very high market share, are up with 43 per cent during the campaign. For other displays that do not have an integrated LCD screen, the campaign boost is “only” 14 per cent.

- The stop Effect on customers are much stronger with an LCD screen, than with ordinary dislplays, explains Nina Fernandez Kvammen in Mills.

On the screen, still pictures and video clips from a current TV advertising campaign is being showed, together with delicious examples of the bring-along sandwiches made from the campaign products.

Unique
The campaign display developed by Peterson is unique in its kind. Unlike other countries, there are not many LCD screens to be seen in Norwegian shops.

- Many of our customers want television screens in the shops, but they fear the expences. Our solutions is cheaper, since the customers only buy the display, as usual. The LCD screen can be rented from us for a short period of time, like a monthr, says Kai Kristiansen in Peterson Packagaing, Display.

All information being showed in the screenshot is stored on a computer chip, programmed by the Peterson companion company, Display Technology.
- The shop attendants only need to plug in the power chord, there are no other two push buttons.

What You Get For All That Dough

The CRV43 has a native 2,880 x 900 pixel resolution, a typical response time of less than 0.02ms, a dynamic range of 12-bit (4096 levels), 68.7 billion colors and a typical contrast ratio of less than 10,000:1.

This baby weighs in at 45.5 pounds. According to NEC, the monitor is easily set up with one input, eliminates bezel and screen gap issues, does not have data or window interference, and features On Screen Display (OSD) and software-based GUI — enabling advanced display control options.

Hotter Than July

The CRV43’s electronics suite is comprised of a single link DVI-D input, HDMI 1.3 input, USB 2.0 connectivity and front panel controls.

In other words, sweet! The monitor is slated for a July release.

KIOSK EUROPE EXPO 2009 and DIGITAL SIGNAGE EXPO 2009, the joint international trade fairs for innovations in customer service and communication, took place from 5th to 7th May in Essen, Germany and attracted nearly 3,300 trade visitors - an impressive feat in today’s market conditions.

The newly-formed European Association for Self-Service presented awards for the best self-service solutions on display, and POPAI D-A-CH did the same for the digital signage side of the event. Next year, both trade fairs will again take place under one roof in Messe Essen from 15th to 17th June 2010.The 2009 events consolidated the shows’ standing as an essential meeting point for industry experts and purchasing decision makers from around the globe. High quality visitors to Essen came from a wide variety of countries across Europe, as well as a significant number of visitors from outside Europe. There were a very strong proportion of end clients and an extremely high number of decision makers; two thirds of the visitors were decision makers, with managing directors making up 49 per cent of the visitors, an increase of 30 per cent over last year.

By their own account, more than 60 percent of visitors will install digital signage or self-service solutions within the next 12 months.

“It was particularly gratifying to see high-profile companies and brands, as well as several advertising and communications agencies, amongst the visitors. This shows that communications specialists have now recognised that digital customer information is a new communication channel, and will thus increasingly use digital signage and self-service strategically in the future”, commented Jens Schindler, Managing Director of event organiser, hf media & events.
